Operational Test Standard
The Conostan FT-IR Operational Test Standard is a petroleum-based fluid similar to routine oil samples that are analyzed by Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy as part of a condition-monitoring program. The product looks and handles like the used oil samples routinely tested, and flows through the system to monitor the cell and tubing in addition to providing a known spectrum and test values. The Conostan FT-IR Operational Test Standard validates FT-IR instrument performance and handling procedures to ensure repeatability and reproducibility for fluid condition monitoring programs.
Additionally, it may be used to supplement the ASTM E-1421 FT-IR performance test using polystyrene and is recommended in the pending ATSM draft practice for used oil analysis by FT-IR.
An automated method has been implemented by Digilab for their line of Oil Analyzers and Oil Analysis systems. An installation floppy contains the analysis methods and information necessary to perform these tests. Automated methods for other FT-IR spectrometers are under development, owners should contact their respective manufacturers or Conostan for information on availability.
